Viewing Course Material

How do I view the course material?

When you first log in, the Course Topic Page will be displayed showing the sections of the current topic. To continue with the course, select the last available link in the Topic list.

I click on an introduction, section or summary link and nothing happens, what's wrong?

Some browsers and browser plugins (like the Google toolbar) prevent pop-up windows from displaying. If the course does not start after selecting a link, ensure that pop-up windows are allowed.

Can I take the course on different computers?

Yes, as long as it meets the minimum specifications for the course?

Can a friend help me take the course?

You should not need any help with the course because all the content is contained in the training programme. It is a requirement of the Terms and Conditions that you can demonstrate that you have understood all the course content and you may be audited on this before your Blue Card is issued.

Why aren’t all sections available?

You must take the course content in the order that it is presented. This means that while you can see the titles of the content that is coming up, you cannot access it until you come to it.

Why is the Next Topic link greyed out?

You must follow the sections in the order that they appear. This means that you can’t access the Next Topic until you have finished the one that you’re on.

I started a section but logged out before completing it. How do I return to where I left off?

When you log back in, you will be prompted to begin where you left off.

I have logged off and then back on and my last bookmark was not saved. Why is this?

When taking the course, you must ensure that you leave the Training Portal page open. When exiting the course material, you must also select the “Home” button. Never exit the course using the ‘x’ in the right hand corner.

Taking the Topic Assessments

Why is the Topic Assessment link greyed out?

You cannot attempt the Topic Assessment until you have viewed all the sections. The link will not be available until then.

I have seen all of the sections, what do I do now?

Select the Topic Assessment link to begin the assessment. You cannot go to the next Topic until you have passed all the sections of the Assessment.

What happens if I log out during an assessment?

If you log out of the course during an assessment, all sections will be marked as failed and you will need to redo each section to continue. Please ensure you have enough time to complete an assessment before starting it.

I did not pass a section, what do I do now?

In the Topic Page, select the section(s) that have a red ‘x’ next to them to view the relevant content and complete an assessment question. You must pass all the sections before you can go to the next Topic.

I have passed all the sections in the topic, what do I do now?

Select the Next Topic link to begin the next topic.

Course Information

How can I view more information about the course?

Recognition of Prior Learning

What is Recognition of Prior Learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a way of recognising your previous knowledge of material and experience that you may have in relation to the course. For each topic in the course, you will be given an opportunity to take an RPL assessment to determine whether you know the material in enough depth to skip the content.

If you chose to RPL a topic, one of three outcomes are possible:

1.    Full RPL

If you answer all questions correctly, you will have passed the topic and can proceed to the next topic.

2.    Partial RPL

If the RPL assessment indicates that you know most of the topic material, you will only need to view and take an assessment on the material that you don’t know.

3.    No RPL

If the RPL assessment indicates that you don’t know most of the topic material, you will be required to view the topic in full.

Who should attempt a Topic RPL?

Only people who have had previous formal training or enough practical experience of the content that will be covered in the Topic.

Changing Your Personal Details

How do I change my personal details?

Go to the Topic Page and then select the My Details tab at the top centre of the screen.

Paying for Your Blue Card Course

When do I pay for taking the Blue Card Course?

Once you have completed the course in full, you will be provided with a page to choose how you wish to pay.

What payment options are there?

If you are having your Blue Card mailed, you may pay by credit card online or over the phone.

If you are picking up your Blue Card, you may also pay in person when you pick up your Blue Card.

Blue Card Delivery

How can my Blue Card be delivered?

Your Blue Card and related certificates of completion can be either mailed or you can choose to them up in person at our East Victoria Park office.

How long will it take to have my Blue Card delivered?

This depends on the type of delivery method chosen and whether you have been selected for a Competency Audit.

1.    Delivery by Post

If you’re not selected for a Competency Audit and have chosen to receive your Blue Card and Certificate by mail, we will endeavour to have them posted by the end of the next working day. Actual delivery times will be dependent on the type of mail delivery chosen and where you live. All material is posted from Perth, Australia.

Please note that there may be some delay if you have been chosen to undergo a Competency Assessment. Please see the Competency Assessment section below for more information.

2.    Delivery by Pick Up

If you have not been selected for a Competency Audit and have chosen to pick up your Blue Card and Certificate by mail, you can come in to our East Victoria Park Office (9:00 am to 4:00 pm business week days).

Please note that you may be selected for a competency audit when you pick up your Blue Card so please allow twenty to thirty minutes to receive your material.

Can I have my Blue Card and Certificate sent to an address that is different to the one I gave at enrolment?

Yes. When you go to pay for the course, you will be given the option of entering a delivery address. This can be different to the address you gave at enrolment.

Can someone else pick up my Blue Card for me?

No. If you wish to pick up your Blue Card, you must do so in person and have identification to verify who you are.

Competency Audits

What is a Competency Audit?

A Competency Audit is used to ensure AVELING is confident that you understand the material presented. For this reason, you may be contacted by one of our certified trainers either during the course or after you’ve finished it. If selected for an audit, we will need between fifteen and twenty minutes of your time to ask some questions. This is a mandated requirement of the Western Australian Training Accreditation Council and is performed by all Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).

How do I know if I have been selected for a Competency Audit?

You will be notified by email and/or telephone. This may occur before you have completed the material or afterwards.

How long will the Competency Audit take?

The Competency Audit should take between fifteen and twenty minutes. It will occur over the phone if the Blue Card and Certificate is being mailed, or in person or phone if being picked up.

What happens if I fail a Competency Audit?

This is up to the audit assessor and depends on the level of knowledge assessed. You may simply discuss the areas that were difficult to clarify topics not understood. Or, you may be required to take part, or all of the course again in full.

Can I refuse a Competency Audit?

You can refuse to participate in a competency audit, however you will not receive a Blue Card and Certificate and any payments made will not be refunded, and our records will show that you have not successfully completed the course.
